Another example, the bathroom is six by eight, which is a total of fourteen. Therefore, a bathroom of that size could handle a chandelier up to fourteen inches.

When buying chandeliers after you’ve determined what size you need, you’ll need to keep in mind a few key factors: the difference between chandeliers and chandelettes. For comparison’s sake, chandelettes may also go by the name of pendalette, in which the pendant light features multiple articles similar to the chandelier. These light fixtures are generally the same, despite the different names.

That being said, a chandelier is any multiple armed or multiple light source hanging ceiling fixture that is at least twelve inches in diameter. Chandelettes are smaller in size at anywhere from nine to twelve inches. Light fixtures that are smaller than nine inches arependant lights. So always take note of the dimensions on the box before you purchase!

Finally, don’t forget to choose a chandelier that suits the overall style of the room that it resides in. While the term ‘chandelier’ often brings to mind a grand, glittering crystal-accented piece, this particular style isn’t suited for every room.

So you've decided you need a new chandelier. What now? Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you shop.

Getting the Right Size Chandelier

For starters, remember that lighting from a chandelier, no matter what the setting, should make a room, people, home furnishings and prized possessions look their very best. So it's important to hang the chandelier in the right spot and at the proper height for maximum impact.

A chandelier in a dining room setting should be positioned in the center of the dining table and room proportions.

Avoid purchasing chandeliers that are larger than the width of your table, as people may bump into it when getting up. A handy rule of thumb is that a chandelier should be 12 inches narrower than a table and have at least 48 inches of space from each of the room walls or edges.

Hang a chandelier approximately 30 to 34 inches over a table with an 8 foot ceiling height. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, mount the chandelier an additional 3 inches higher for each foot of ceiling.

Tips for Chandelier Bulbs

Keep in mind that lighting from a chandelier that beams directly onto a person from above can cast unflattering facial shadows. The heat from bulbs directly overhead can also be uncomfortable.

Avoid high wattage chandelier light bulbs. They will increase the heat and cause excessive table glare.

Try adding shades to chandelier candelabra bulbs or a wall dimmer to help you control the light and set a more flattering mood.

Many people choose to mount their chandelier above the dining room table. The dining room is a more formal area and is well-suited for chandeliers. The diameter of the chandelier is based upon the width of the dining room table. This is calculated by taking subtracting twelve inches from the total width of the dining room table. The height that the chandelier should be mounted at for rooms with 9 foot ceilings is roughly 30-33 inches from the top of the dining room table. When the ceiling is above 9 feet tall, the chandelier should hang 3 inches more (add 3 inches to the 30-33 inches figure for every foot above 9 feet) above the table for every foot. So, for a twelve foot ceiling, the chandelier should be 39-42 inches above the dining room table.

When not using the chandelier in the dining room, the size is determined by the room dimensions. There are two basic ways to calculate the diameter of a chandelier using room dimensions. In the first, the diameter is calculated by multiplying 2 inches by the total width of the room in feet. A width of 12 feet would require a chandelier with a diameter of 24 inches.

The other method is to add the dimensions of the room and convert into inches. In other words, a 10’X12’ room would have a chandelier with a diameter of 22 inches. Some judgment will be necessary but a good rule of thumb is that it is best to err on the small side when you have more elaborate and traditional chandeliers and to go a little large on more modern chandeliers.

อุปกรณ์ที่ต้องเตรียม

1. สิ่งแรกนั่นคือ กระป๋องโลหะ ที่มีลักษณะแข็งพอประมาณ ไม่บางแบบกระป๋องน้ำอัดลม แต่หากจะใช้กระป๋องน้ำอัดลมก็ได้เช่นกัน เพียงแต่ อาจยุบตัวง่ายเมื่อเจาะรู
2. อุปกรณ์อื่นๆ กรรไก ค้อน ตะปู ปากกาสี กระดาษ ลายกระดาษ กาวหรือสก๊อตเทป

ขั้นตอนแรก นำกระป๋องโลหะที่เตรียมไว้แล้ว และลายกระดาษ โดยลวดลายดังกล่าวนี้ สามารถออกแบบได้ตามใจ อาจประยุกต์เป็นตัวอักษร รูปดอกไม้ หรือ รูปอื่นๆ ก็ขึ้นอยู่กับความชอบ โดยคำนึงว่า ลายดังกล่าวนี้ จะแสดงผลเป็นแสงเทียนส่องผ่านรูที่เจาะ เมื่อได้ลายที่ต้องการ ทำการแปะรอบกระป๋อง เพื่อเตรียมเจาะรู

ขั้นตอนที่สอง ทำการเจาะรู ด้วยตะปู และค้อน เจาะตามจุดที่มาร์คไว้บนลายกระดาษ พยายามอย่าให้กระดาษลาย หลุดออกจากกระป๋อง เพราะอาจทำให้ลายคลาดเคลื่อนตามกันไปได้ ทั้งนี้ หากใครไม่ชอบมีลายมากนัก หรือคิดว่า ยุ่งยากเกินไป อาจเจาะมั่วๆ ก็ดูแตกต่างดี

ขั้นตอนที่สาม หากใครต้องการเพิ่มสีสัน อาจใช้ปากกาเคมี ปากการสี ทาสีบนกระป๋อง เพื่อเพิ่มสีสันที่สะท้อนกับแสงเทียน ทำให้ดูแฟนซี น่ารักไปอีกแบบ แต่หากใครไม่ชอบ ก็สามารถเอาสีเดิมได้เช่นกัน เพราะลักษณะของโลหะ ให้ความเงางามสะท้อนแสงอยู่แล้ว

ขั้นตอนที่สี่ เมื่อเจาะรู้ และทาสีเสร็จแล้ว เพียงเท่านี้เราก็ได้กระป๋อง ที่ไว้สำหรับเป็นโคมไฟ ขั้นตอนต่อไปเพียงแค่นำเทียนไข แบบกลมแบน วางไว้ในกระป๋อง เอาไว้จุดในยามค่ำคืน หรือหากให้ดี เลือกเป็นเทียนไขตระไคร้ สามารถไล่ยุงได้อีกด้วย ได้ทั้งแสงสวยๆ และยุงไม่กัด อีกทั้งประหยัดตังค์ได้อีกเยอะ เป็นไอเดียเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ลองทำกันดูนะครับ
